Native American Heritage Month – Land Acknowledgement

Bernstein High School is on the traditional land of the Tongva, Chumash and Kizh peoples. We join together in acknowledging the Tongva, Chumash and Kizh community, their elders both past and present, as well as future generations. We recognize that this land was unceded and taken unjustly and through violence and acknowledge continued exclusions and erasures of many Indigenous peoples, including the land in which Bernstein High School sits. We also recognize that non-indigenous peoples have benefited from these acts. This acknowledgment demonstrates a commitment to beginning the process of working to recognize harm done, past and present, and, as students and educators, to work towards justice in the future.
